Professional Nursing
Professional Nursing Program-
Coastal Bend College offers both the generic professional nursing program and the LVN-RN program. Students graduate with a Associates in Applied Science (AAS). Successful graduates of the programs are eligible to apply to the Board of Nursing for licensure.
Generic students may have the opportunity to "swing out" after completion of the second semester, take required courses in the summer Vocational Nursing Program and graduate from the LVN program. This option gives the student the option of acquiring a marketable skill and then return to school when the time is right.
Prerequisites: High school graduate or GED, completion of required academic courses.
Application Process:
Potential students
a. Must take and pass the RN TEAS exam with a 75 or better.
b. Must have a clear background check by the Board of Nursing or have a completed Declaratory Order from the Board of Nursing
c. Must have a negative drug screen
Students who pass the TEAS exam will receive an application to the program. The completed application will be scored by the selection committee. Those students with the highest scores, a negative background check, and negative drug screen, will be offered admission.
The professional nursing program is currently offered at Alice and, Beeville but will be expanding to other CBC campuses.
Prerequisite courses: Although academic courses are shown integrated with nursing courses, students are strongly encouraged to complete the academic courses prior to entry into the nursing program. The selection committee awards points for completed academic course work.
